I first met Sue in a Landscape class I was teaching at Chastain Art Center decades ago. It was January and bitterly cold outside, so we were working in the studio from sketches or photos when suddenly Sue announced "I'm determined to paint plein air", gathered up her painting gear andleft to paint outside. She returned at the end of class with a completed painting. She needed very little insruction. Sue and I were friends for many decades after, as we painted together ,sometimes with my class, in all the parks around Atlanta. The last time was a weekend workshop I taught and Sue hosted at her mountain home. All of us were impressed with the beauty of the house that she had designed herself. I own an early work by Sue, purchased from a Show and Sale she held at her former home on Old Ivy Road in Buckhead, an interesting former hunting lodge built in the 1920s. When she sold the property and moved to Charleston it was torn down . Six new houses now occupy that property. I will always remember and miss Sue.
